An American couple have been arrested for spying for Cuba. They appear to have been motivated by love for Communist Cuba’s government, an official says.
I’ve resumed posting to the blog and apologize for my absence. I have a full time job, commuting eats up about another 10 hours a week, I write a weekly Internet column for a newspaper in Oklahoma, and just lately I was consumed by my efforts to publicize a new novel by SF author Roger Zelazny that I believed was being unfairly ignored by the mainstream media. (Am I a science fiction fan, or what? See my posting below). But I haven’t lost interest in the LNN and plan to resume regular posting.
Barack Obama, who deserves credit for releasing the memos detailing the Bush administration’s torture memos, hasn’t ruled out prosecuting the Bush lawyers who authorized the torture, reports ProPublica, which last week was the first news organization to point out that Dubya’s lawyers might not be off the hook.
Meanwhile, torture is straining the fragile romance that libertarians and conservatives forged over tea last week. L. Neil Smith fumes on his Twitter feed, “The moron Limbaugh defends torture as an American institution. I despair of ever being able to work with conservatives against Obamanistas.”
President Obama’s promised $100 million in budget cuts amount to very little, the Associated Press reports. It cites various comparisons to show that’s a trivial sum in the federal budget. It’s “less than half the cost of one F-22 fighter plane,” the news agency says.
